Venice Italy entrance ticket
In an attempt to deal with the large number of day trippers visiting Venice from cruise ships the government has given the city of Venice the right to charge an entrance ticket to those cruise ship passengers. The ticket will have a maximum of €10. No mention at the moment how the money will be collected but it seems the simplest way would be to charge the cruise line and have them somehow collect the money.
City overrun by daytrippers
Over the years the number of day trippers from the cruise ships have greatly increased. These visitors often clog the city for not just the residents but other tourists while not really contributing anything to the city or it’s economy. The large cruise ships have been a sore spot with city residents for years.
The move will hopefully encourage at least some of the daytrippers to spend more than just the day in Venice. Venice is a city often best enjoyed early morning or in the evening. Not rushing back and forth during the day
