 The Solemn Changing of the Guard
At 12 noon the first Wednesday of the month (except for January, August and September) the Solemn Changing of the Guard happens at the Royal Palace in Madrid. An event involving everything from mounted horsemen to infantry and even musicians. One of the horse units wearing shiny polished armour reminiscent of medieval knights. The rest of units wearing their finest dress uniforms.
The Event
lasts about an hour. You will know the event is nearing it’s conclusion when you see the gun carriage arrive pulled by it’s horses.
If you have the time consider arriving earlier. The guards rehearse but they won’t be wearing their dress uniforms.
